Whether English isn’t your first language, or you simply find live onboard commentary more difficult to follow, the app is designed to create a more immersive experience and ensure our guests get the most out of the cruise.
Throughout your cruise, the app shares the same fascinating stories and local insights you can expect from our crew, including the history of the fiord, its incredible geology, native flora and fauna, wildlife and the people and places that have shaped this special part of New Zealand.
And don’t worry, our skipper isn’t going anywhere! Live commentary in English will continue throughout your cruise, sharing what we know about our place and pointing out the sights as you explore the fiord.

The Pure Milford app uses GPS technology to recognise where you are during your cruise. As you reach different points of interest throughout Piopiotahi / Milford Sound, the relevant commentary will automatically play on your device, allowing the stories around you to unfold as you explore. Once the commentary has been downloaded, you don’t need Wi-Fi, mobile data or phone coverage to use it. Simply connect your headphones, sit back and enjoy the show.

Download Before You Arrive
There is no Wi-Fi available at the Piopiotahi / Milford Sound terminal or on board our vessels to download the app and tour content. Please download the Pure Milford app and your selected commentary before travelling to Milford Sound, while you have access to a reliable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. Once it has been downloaded, you’re all set. You won’t need Wi-Fi or mobile coverage during your cruise.

Getting Ready for Your Cruise
1. Download the Pure Milford App
Visit the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and download the free Pure Milford app.
Remember to do this before travelling to Piopiotahi / Milford Sound.
2. Select Your Language
Open the app and choose your preferred language from the available options.
3. Select and Download Your Cruise
Select Tours, find your Pure Milford cruise commentary and download the content to your device. You’ll need an internet connection to complete the download, but once it’s saved to your device, you won’t need Wi-Fi, mobile data or phone coverage during your cruise to play the tour.
4. Enable Location Services
When prompted, select Allow to enable GPS location services and follow the instructions on screen. The app uses your location during the cruise to recognise when you reach different points of interest and automatically play the right commentary at the right time.
5. Allow Notifications
You may also be asked to allow tour notifications. These help the app keep you informed as you approach points of interest throughout your journey.
6. Connect Your Headphones and Enjoy the Show
Bring your own headphones or earbuds and connect them to your device before the cruise begins. The commentary will automatically play as you reach each location, or you can pause, replay and listen again whenever you like.
Please use headphones when listening to the app rather than playing commentary through your device speakers, so everyone on board can enjoy their Pure Milford experience.
